Sister Agnes Mary Finin died Saturday, September 22 at her home at St. John's Convent Rensselaer. A Sister of Mercy for sixty-nine years, Sister Agnes Mary was born in Albany. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Moran) Finin. Sister is survived by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Northeast Regional Community and by her dear friends Dr. Michael and Mrs. Margaret Flemming of Loudonville. Sister taught in St. Mary's Clinton Heights, St. James North Creek, St. Paul's Troy, St. John's Rensselaer, Keveny Academy Cohoes and Mercy High School Albany. She served as principal and teacher at Vincentian grade school, St. Teresa's Albany and St. Patrick's Albany. Sister's major areas of education were reading and history. Her special interest was understanding the special needs of the exceptional child. This interest was shared when training teachers first at Mercy Normal School and later at Maria College. Viewing hours will be from 4 pm to 8 pm. on Monday, September 24 in the Convent of Mercy Chapel, 634 New Scotland Avenue, Albany. Friends, former students and coworkers are welcome and invited to attend a prayer service of remembrance in the Chapel at 7 pm. A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in the chapel. Internment will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Third Avenue, East Greenbush. Contributions in memory of Sister may be made to The Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
